There has been a lot of chatter since late Sunday night about the death of Public Enemy #1, and while the death of a human is not usually cause for celebration, with the death of this man, even I breathed a sigh of relief. While Al Qaeda still exists, and the threat of retaliation hangs strong over our heads, with the death of their head we've finally struck a victory in the face of the terrible tragedy that was September 11, 2001.
What amazes me about all of it, above and beyond the brave heroics of our Navy Seals and the CIA operatives that were involved in the operation, is the chatter that President Obama is still being criticized and it is being said that he should not take the credit for this...well, let me tell you what my thoughts are. President Obama also acted heroically in this operation. It was him, not anyone else, that had to have the guts to give the go ahead. It could have all blown up in his face, Bin Laden could have not been in that compound, innocents and our own people could have died....a hundred other things could have gone wrong. BUT despite ALL of that, our President made the courageous call to go forward...George W Bush didn't make the call, Barack Obama made the call. I don't care what else you think of the man, if you are so blinded that you cannot see this, there is something seriously wrong,
During his speech late Sunday night, he asked us as American's to remember the unity that we all felt as a country on September 11, 2001. For the first time in my recollection, we finally started acting like the great nation we are on that day, but it was quickly drained away again....And he asked us to go back to that. He asked us to once again form the bonds of unity that are one of the many things that make this country so great.
So I will ask my readership for something that should, as an American, be easy. Please put aside your prejudices, not only against our President, but against all. Let's take this news as a reaffirmation that our country is still a great place to live, and make it so, for all of our fellow citizens.
God Bless the United States of America, God Bless our troops who have fought the long, hard battle for this victory and God Bless you, each and every one.
